Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Coordinator: Position Description PDF AD

The City of Seminole, Florida, (Fire District population approximately 90,000, 25 square miles), is seeking an energetic professional with exceptional leadership and technical skills who is capable of enhancing the progressive delivery of fire and EMS services to the community. The ideal candidate shall have exceptional communication skills while being comfortable with public visibility and public speaking situations. This responsible administrative position reports directly to the Fire Chief and serves as a valued member of the department’s executive management team. A candidate with forward thinking vision and creativity is a must.

The City of Seminole Fire Rescue Department is an all-hazards response agency serving the Seminole Fire District within Pinellas County. The department currently employs a staff of 80 dedicated and energetic professionals who operate four fire stations providing comprehensive public safety services. Those services include; paramedic-level first responder EMS, fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials mitigation and public assist services. Fire prevention, public safety education, and fire code enforcement are also provided through the department’s Life Safety Services Section.

The position of Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Coordinator is responsible for the direction and management of daily activities of the Fire Operations, Training, and Emergency Medical Services Sections of the Department’s Operations Division. Applicant must possess significant leadership experience in a progressive, career fire department including; shift/battalion management, incident command experience, budget preparation and management, and employee development, and leadership. The position requires the following; Bachelor’s Degree in Fire, EMS, Public administration, Business Administration, or closely related field from an accredited college; minimum two (2) years of current, active experience at the command level equivalent to the District Chief or higher, (five years preferred); Florida Bureau of Fire Standards & Training certified Firefighter, Florida Bureau of Fire Standards & Training certified Fire Officer II, (or obtainment within 12 months of appointment), and Florida State certified Paramedic. The candidate must possess extensive knowledge of emergency pre-hospital patient care at both the BLS and ALS levels and must have, or become, Pinellas County Medical Control certified at the paramedic level. A valid Florida Class E driver’s license is required and the candidate must be non-smoking, non-tobacco using person both on and off duty at time of employment and maintain the status throughout employment. The work hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. with after business hours for both emergency and non-emergency situations as needed.

The selection process includes a resume and application evaluation, an in-depth interview process, and an extensive background investigation with drug screening. A competitive benefit package is provided; salary range is $67,213 - $97,460. City Inspector: The City of Seminole is seeking a full-time Building Inspector. Duties include enforcement of local and state codes, ordinances, regulations, statutes; perform plan reviews; perform building inspections for safety, structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing, municipal, and construction. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma/equivalent, valid Florida driver’s license, state licensed Building Code Inspector, certified in one & two family dwelling OR certified in building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing preferred. Five (5) years employment experience in comparable position. The selected applicant will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening. Starting salary: depending upon qualifications (D.O.Q.). Salary range: $41,857.50/year to $60,693.36/year. Training Technician: Part-time-20 hours/week. Organize equipment, schedule in-house training, maintain training records, handle ordering, and Fire Rescue supplies,  inventory management of household equipment and firefighting equipment. This is a non-firefighter position. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and computer proficiency, a valid Florida driver’s license, good interpersonal skills, and selected candidate must be a non-smoker/ non-tobacco user both on and off job for one year prior to time of employment and maintain non-smoking status throughout employment. Knowledge of fire suppression/prevention methods preferred. Entry level position starting at $10.94/ hour.  Salary range: $10.94/ hour to $15.87/hour.
